Beginners’ Wheel-Throwing: Immersion Week

Join us for an intensive introduction to wheel-throwing!
Aimed at complete beginners, or those who are perhaps a bit rusty and want to kick-start their throwing, this week-long course will cover basic throwing skills, making beakers, bowls, vases, mugs, jugs and lidded pots. You will also learn how to trim and finish your pieces, and add handles and knobs. There will also be an opportunity to explore decoration techniques prior to firing.
Course programme
Day 1: Centring clay on the wheel, lifting technique, throwing beakers
Day 2: Throwing bowls, vases and jugs
Day 3: Throwing lidded jars, afternoon practice time
Day 4: Turning leatherhard beakers, bowls, jugs, jars and lids
Day 5: Attaching handles, surface decoration
What's included?
Tea and coffee is available throughout the week and is included in the course price, but please bring a packed lunch each day.
No accommodation is included but we can supply a list of local accommodation options upon request.
All materials are provided: at the end of the course, you will be able to select your 10 favourite pieces which we will fire and glaze for you.
A postage charge of £15pp will be payable for postage of your pots to you (unless you wish to return to collect them).
If you would like to take home more than 10 pots, you are free to do so for firing yourself, or we can fire, glaze and post up to an additional 10 pots for you for an additional £15pp (£7.50pp if you do not require postage)
